Wraps

The Wrap. This is the simplest, most basic carrier, yet the most complex and versatile.

The “wrap around” is a long piece of fabric, wrapped around mom and baby. No sewing needed. Buying a ready made wrap may not be very cheap, because there is a large quantity of fabric and some carriers are made from very high quality fabric, too. Yet it is the easiest carrier to make at home at no costs at all, by simply using a bed sheet, pareo or similar.

There are 2 main kinds of wrap- stretchy and woven. The stretchy ones are tied first and then you insert the baby, and are easier to use for front positions. The woven are usually tied around mom and baby together and are great for any position whatsoever.

The tying methods are endless- I know moms who keep finding and inventing new tying methods. It is the best carrier for serious carrier freaks, because you can use it in a different manner virtually every day. In this blog you can some examples of tying methods.

Any wrap can be used from birth. The stretchy wrap is great for the first few months, but no so great for older and heavier babies. The woven wrap is great for any baby, no matter how big or heavy. The wrap in the picture is a woven one and so very comfortable for carrying even a big toddler like this charming little girl.

What do purses and carriers have in common?

The Gucci baby carrier, naturally!

I have already said that I think a carrier is a fashion accessory. I guess that women who usually dress up in style and buy top designers items should have a carrier to match.

Personally, I don’t like very much this type of carriers- these rigid ones where the baby has its legs hanging out, especially if it’s very small. I think if Gucci made a Mei tai or a nice sling, that would be really awesome.
