Getting your baby to your back may seem difficult, if not impossible, but it can be very simple actually. If you are an insecure beginner, you can simply use a bed to get your baby on your back. Once you get used to carrying your baby on your back, and it gets older, you may feel more secure and try lifting as well.
If you want to carry a newborn on your back, the simplest way I know is to use the bed method in order to put it in a Mei tai.
If your baby is more than 3 months old and holds her head firmly, you can use also a soft carrier like the Ergo, which looks like a rucksack with a baby in it, and is very comfortable for carrying toddlers as well. It is possible to use the bed method with the Ergo carrier the same way you do with Mei tai.
If you need to wear your baby often away from home and your bed, you can either wear it on your tummy or your hip, use some other surface instead of a bed (such as the car seat, the grass in the park or even the hood of your car), or… just learn how to lift
